Beautiful leaves & fall breeze

Oranges, yellows, browns....This time of year is one of my favorites! I'm not sure if it is because the holiday season starts around this time, the awesome food, football games or hayrides. While all those things are a part of what makes this my favorite time of year, I think its mostly because of the beautiful transformation of nature and the wonderful weather we have in which to enjoy it with those we love.

Walks are the most peaceful and serene when you are surrounded by fallen leaves and there is a briskness in the air. I almost miss living in town because I was lucky enough to have a sidewalk to walk on and lived very close to the historic area of town. It was almost like taking a walk in a storybook. Now that we live outside of town and on a busy road, I'm not able to just step outside to take walks. I must drive somewhere to walk, or do the ole hamster exercise on my treadmill. Fall makes me miss those walks so much....

Fall does get me in the holiday mood. When I see those multi-colored leaves, I know I need to start getting prepared for the boom, boom, boom of the holiday season. The first holiday, Halloween, is already over and we had a very enjoyable one. H can walk this Halloween so it wasn't so hard on these old arms as it was last year. We dressed to match (Popeye & Olive Oyl) and had lots of comments on how cute we both looked.

Next up is Thanksgiving and it is my absolute favorite of all holidays! Most will say they enjoy Christmas the most, but even when I was younger, I always had a fond spot for Thanksgiving. Maybe because my birthday is so close to it every year (even on Thanksgiving some years)? Really, it's not that. Thanksgiving is a holiday dedicated to the thought of thankfulness. People take time on this day to really think about all the great things in their lives and all they have to be thankful for. It's not about presents, consumerism, decorations, jingle bells, or Santa. It's about being with family and just being thankful for it all. THAT is why Thanksgiving is my favorite. Not to mention I love, love, love thanksgiving food and it gives me an excuse to eat until I'm full as a tick!

I hope everyone takes a minute this season to slow down, stop and take a few minutes to enjoy those beautiful leaves, warm hot chocolate, Sunday football games, and most of all every precious family moment and memory you will make this fall. Take time not only on Thanksgiving, but every day, to really appreciate all it is we are blessed to have and experience in this life. Slow down and enjoy every second.
